Soon we leave to catch an overnight train. My camera has devoured four sets of batteries in the last two days, repeatedly crapping out in the middle of interesting experiences. After walking down several streets in Kanchipuram looking into every store that looked vaguely electronics related, waving an AA battery at befuddled Tamil-speaking clerks, I found some rechargeable ones and a charger. They crapped out in ten minutes. I'm trying to charge them again . . . we'll see. In the meantime:
Some smells I noticed traveling across rural south India with the bus windows open: hay, manure, rotting vegetation, rain, mango, human waste, goat.
I have never been a particularly good portrait photographer. I get too wrapped up in background and architecture. But here are some images of people I have noticed and managed to photograph in the last two weeks.
